Here are the steps.
1) Use an acrylic ATC piece for the base. I've actually run the piece through my Cuttlebug with a butterfly die cut to create the butterfly image on the acrylic piece. It won't cut through but will create a slight embossed edges of the butterfly on the acrylic. This will ease the alcohol ink painting process later.
2) Use various colours of alcohol ink and paint it onto the acrylic base. Do not paint on the butterfly image. Paint the edges with some black acrylic paint.
3) I've doodle some flourishes and circles on it using paint markers and liquid pearls. I've also stamped on it's lower left using acrylic paint.
4) Stamp the "flower" image on a piece of white card stock (use solvent ink) and use the "Crayon Resist" technique to colour the image. Cut it out and paste it to the ATC. I've punched two holes on the bottom of stem and tie a ribbon to it.
5) Use your embossing tool to embossed a butterfly on a purple card stock and cut it out. Lightly sand the embossed butterfly with sanding block or sand paper to enhance the embossed design.I've actually cut out part of the butterfly to better reveal the clear butterfly image on the acrylic base. Add Stickles and liquid pearls to dress it up. Paste it to the ATC.
6) Lastly, I've added a ribbon sentiment on the lower left of the ATC.
Can you see that the butterfly just flew right out of the ATC? I just love that effect. I'm actually posting this from my mini laptop as I'm still away from my home celebrating Chinese New Year at my in-laws. Hope that this piece would somehow inspire you all to try something which is totally out of your comfort zone. I'm not sure if any of you had sign up for QKD's February's Get Inked! Kit but if you haven't you can see the stamp set here. Grab it while you can. It's almost sold out!
