Hiro has Cataract!

I've promised to come back here to post about the outcome after taking Hiro to the vet today. It's confirmed that Hiro has cataract! The vet has done of tests on him and she is convinced that he has "Inherited Cataracts". It is just not common for dogs of such young age to get cataracts. You all could read more on cataracts through this link. The family is very sad about this news but there's really not much we can do. As per the vet, there are very few successful cases in cataract surgeries for dogs especially if they are inherited cataracts. We're just not ready to go through the roller coaster ride of emotion and him having to go through difficult and painful treatments.

He will not totally loss his vision. As per the vet, his vision will just be more blurry than normal dog and if kept in safe environment, he will be fine. It won't affect his health. Thanks to all of you who had prayed and care for Hiro's situation. We will make sure he is well taken care of.

When I looked at the picture of Hiro yesterday, I thought it looked like cataract, since my late Samoyed had this, but my white bear was old and Hiro is young, so I thought I might be wrong and didn't say anything...
I'm sorry to hear it's cataract...
But I know you'll do your best for him, so he'll be fine and happy.

Oh I'm sure Hiro will be taken good care of. At least the news isn't extremely bad--it could've been worst with him losing his vision completely. I'll keep little Hiro in my thoughts. I have my own fur baby & I know what the love for a family pet is like

Poor Hiro! But he is also a very lucky dog to have you guys to take care of him! I am sure that he will live a long and happy life surrounded by the love that you will give him!

Irene, I'm so glad to hear that Hiro's problem is not more serious. Almost all the pet owners in my family have dogs with cataracts and our big old aussie had them in both eyes. Hiros looks very small right now and he proably doesn't even realize there is anything wrong. He is so darn handsome these days isn't he?

I am so pleased that Hiro does not have anything seriously wrong with him. My dog had cataracts and managed perfectly well for many years.

awww sorry to hear about Hiro hon but he'll be fine! We had a dog that went completely blind in both eyes and he could manoeuvre his way around the house and garden without any problems. He still played with toys and just couldn't play fetch anymore! It's a shame but at least he won't lose his sight completely and his other eye is fine. He'll adapt and be perfectly happy I'm sure! x

Our american cocker has lived with cataracts for about four years. It doesn't really effect her much. Somedays she bumps into things, but that's about the worse of it. They use their scent to find their toys. And she will be blind eventually. But they love us unconditionally - with or without their eyesite. (Our dog was also very young and maybe that was a benefit for her to adapt.)

Awww poor Hiro, but I'm glad it was nothing more 'serious'. And how clever of you to spot it from the photo - I'll be keeping an eye on our doggy photos from now on.

Hello! Normally I read for the paper crafting inspiration, but your dog, Hiro, has struck a chord with me. Half my life ago, I had a dog who had grown old and also had cataract. I can relate to your family's pain right now and hope for his years to come.

Ohhh... poor Hero. I'm sure you'll take care of him and he'll get a good quality life.
My little Nanny is almost blind of her right side eye and she's doing ok. She can have quite e normal life. It's due from a congenital hydrocephalus.
You know. it's so painful for us but thanks GOD we can manage it.
Hope you find a better way to help him. I'll keep him in my prayers too.
Hugs,
Valeria Vac
